'Cheers' comes to life on stage

CHICAGO (WLS) -- It's the place where everybody knows your name. A new comedy inspired by the hit TV series "Cheers" has hit the stage at the Broadway Playhouse in Chicago.

The play has audience involvement and is based on the iconic sitcom's first season. ABC7's Janet Davies checked out the live version of the iconic television show.

Cheers debuted 34 years ago on September 30, 1982. It was initially a ratings disaster, but went on to air for 11 years and earned 28 Emmys during that time.

The play runs through October 23.
