A video of a man's close encounter with a whale in Australia has gone viral.

A plastic bag and fishing line were stuck near the whale's mouth.

The huge mammal insightfully swam up to the boater and asked for help.

The man says the whale was just close enough for him to pull the bag away.

The whale then swam away, but not before it was snapped in the background of a few selfies.
