GIrl takes 'Poppa' to prom
A man goes to the prom for the first time at the age of 80 thanks to his granddaughter

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. -- Prom is a special rite of passage for high school students, but it's one James Drain didn't get to take part in until now.

The 80-year-old grandfather just got invited to prom by his granddaughter, Joy Webb. The Alabama high school student got permission from her school to ask "Poppa" to be her date to the big dance.

"She said 'Hey, will you come to the prom with me and be my beau?' And I said I sure will," Drain told WHNT-TV.

Webb says she wanted to share the experience with her Poppa, a man she says brings nothing but happiness to her family.

"My family is everything to me, and I love him so much, and it's just like really special to me because I know not many people get to do that. And I know he loves me and I love him, and it's just really neat and special," Webb told WHNT-TV.

Drain says its not just his first prom, it's also the first time he's ever worn a tuxedo.
