SPRINGFIELD (WLS) -- The popular butter cow sculpture was unveiled Thursday afternoon at the Illinois State Fair.

The 500-pound sculpture is made of unsalted butter and depicts a cow being milked by a boy who is waving to a woman.

The butter cow has been an unofficial mascot of the fair since the 1920s.

The fair runs through August 17.
