Chef Mindy Segal announces marijuana edibles line

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chef Mindy Segal, owner of the acclaimed Hot Chocolate Restaurant, is launching a new line of chef-crafted marijuana edibles for Illinois medical marijuana patients.

Segal is partnering with Cresco Labs, Illinois' largest cannabis cultivator, for the products which should be available beginning in late February. Segal's first offerings will include chocolate brittle bars, infused granola bites, an infused chocolate drink intended to be warmed and a ready-made mix with do-it-yourself instructions.

"Having someone with Mindy's name brand and credibility enter the cannabis industry says a lot about where this industry is headed," said Charles Bachtell, Cresco Labs Founder.

Segal is one of Chicago's best known chefs, and won a James Beard Award in 2012 for Outstanding Pastry Chef in the Country. Her edible products will be available at licensed dispensaries across the state for patients approved for nearly 40 medical conditions. She also plans to eventually distribute her edibles in five additional states.
