Coronavirus update: Evanston farmers' market reopens under Illinois' modified stay-at-home order restrictions

EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Farmers markets were allowed to open under Governor Pritzker's modified stay-at-home order that took effect Friday.

The annual Evanston Farmers' Market opened to the public Saturday for its 45th season.

But things looked a little different this year with people wearing masks and groups keeping their social distance while in line.

You're not touching anything," said Myra Gorman, manager of the Evanston Farmers' Market. " The vendors are picking out what you're asking them to pick out and then they're putting it in the bags and then you pay for it and then you get it."

The city of Evanston is also telling customers to not consume any food onsite. The urge shoppers to not pick up any produce and to leave their pets at home.

Paying by cash is still allowed and SNAP recipients can use their LINK cards as well.

Chicago' markets will remain closed at least through May 30,
