There's a group of kids from around the country who are making the world a sweeter place by forming an online baking community. Two of the members are from right here in Chicago! Bianca Burz and Bella Thoms stopped by to tell us how the 'Pastry Kids' got started and they shared some of their favorite recipes!

Apple Roses

Ingredients:

1/2 package puff pastry dough

2 large honey crisp apples

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

3/4 cup sugar

4 tbs cinnamon

4 oz butter melted

Instructions:

Wash apples thoroughly and cut in half length wise. Cut core and seeds out as well as stem and bottom. Place apple halves face down on a cutting board, with a sharp knife cut fairly thin apple slices so that you can easily bend the slice, place into a large bowl.

Once all apples are sliced toss in lemon juice, dab the slices with a paper towel to remove extra liquid. Mix together in a small bowl the cinnamon and sugar. Toss your apples in the cinnamon sugar.

Cut puff pastry in strips of about 3/4 inch wide. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

With a pastry brush spread the melted butter to completely cover the dough. Place apple slices in a line over the top half of a strip and roll the strip up sealing the end with melted butter, repeat this until you have used up all your apples and dough, it should make about 7-10 roses. Seal the bottom of apple rose bye brushing with butter and pinching the dough together.

Spray cupcake tin with flavorless cooking spray, place apple roses in tin and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown. Once apples are done baking leave to cool for ten minutes, while they are still warm too with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
