Gary elementary school closes; students transfer to new school Tuesday

GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- Some students in Gary, Indiana will start the new year at a new school.

The Gary Community School Board voted to close the Williams Annex school. Starting Tuesday, students who attended Williams Annex will transfer to Bailly Preparatory Academy.

Two other schools, Jefferson Elementary School and the New Tech program at the Gary Career Center, are also closing this year.

This is all part of an effort to help the financially strapped district save money.
