Girl, 5, recovering after alleged accidental shooting by mother

LANSING, Ill. (WLS) -- A 5-year-old Lansing girl is recovering Monday after she was shot during a party.

Police said the shooting occurred early Monday morning on Rosewood Drive.

According to police, the girl was asleep while a party was held in the house. She was accidentally shot when a gun her mother was handling went off, authorities said.

The girl is being treated at Comer Children's Hospital. Officials have not said whether the mother will face charges.
