OAK PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Expectant mothers that don't want to give birth in a hospital now have a new option in Illinois. The state has its first free-standing birth center.

PCC Community Wellness Center is at the intersection of four communities: Chicago, Berwyn, Cicero and Oak Park. Senator Dick Durbin is a supporter and was at the grand opening on Friday.

"America cannot go wrong investing in healthy moms and healthy babies," Durbin said.

The center is described as a home-like facility where healthy pregnant woman can give birth with minimal medical intervention. These kind of centers only because possible in Illinois after a recent change in law.
