CHICAGO (WLS) -- New data from Illinois' largest health insurer, Blue Cross Blue Shield, shows a sharp rise in the number of children in the state being treated for concussions.

The data shows concussion diagnosis for kids between the ages of 10 and 19 spiked by 83 percent from 2010 through 2015.

Blue Cross officials said the increase is attributable to increased concussion awareness.
