Gurnee homicide suspect in custody after Sunday search

GURNEE, Ill. (WLS) -- Gurnee police say the man accused of shooting and killing a woman Sunday morning in a domestic incident in the northwest suburb is in custody Sunday night.

The case sparked an all-out search in the north suburbs that ended in success Sunday night. Neighbors said David Brocksom was in the middle of a divorce battle and his wife was the victim.

The home was still surrounded by police and a mobile crime lab late Sunday night. Investigators say Brocksom is in custody accused of fatally shooting a woman in a home on the 3700-block of Pacific Ave. around 9:25 a.m. Sunday.

Area residents described him as a friendly neighbor.

"Nice guy, quiet guy, handy," said neighbor Matt Wilkins. "Did a lot of stuff on his house. Waved hello, waved goodbye, that was about it."

Police said Brocksom is their sole person of interest responsible for pulling the trigger in a fatal domestic dispute. Neighbors say the victim was his estranged wife and the mother of his children.

According to court records, the couple was embroiled in a year's long divorce battle.

"He was the ex-husband," neighbor Daphe Jones said. "What I didn't know is he hadn't been in the home for about two years."

Police say all morning and afternoon they were searching for Brocksom, who they said fled the scene of the crime in a Dodge minivan. At 7:45 p.m. Sunday an officer saw Brocksom driving toward the Gurnee police stations parking lot, performed a traffic stop and he was taken into custody without incident.

Police have not said if Brocksom is being charged with murder.
