HUD awards Ill. over $100M in grants for homeless programs

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded over $100 million in grants to support 448 local homeless housing and service programs across Illinois on Monday.

The programs receiving the grants offer a variety of services to those experiencing homelessness, including street outreach and direct housing assistance. The funding will also go to groups that provide services like job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.
