CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced lane closures along the Eisenhower Expressway from Sunday, May 3, through Tuesday, May 5, for construction in the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange Improvement Project.

The lane closures are for the installation of beams on the Halsted Street Bridge over the northwest and southwest ramps to Westbound I-290.

IDOT says beginning at 1 a.m. on Monday, May 4, there will be 15 minute full stops of the northwest ramp from the Dan Ryan Expressway to the Eisenhower Expressway.

Starting at 1 a.m. Tuesday, May5, there will be 15 minute full stops of the northwest ramp from the Dan Ryan to the Eisenhower.

The southwest ramp from the Kennedy Expressway to the Eisenhower will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. The posted detour for the southwest ramp will be to use the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway and exit at 18th Street, reenter northbound on the Dan Ryan and exit to the northwest ramp to the westbound Eisenhower.

IDOT says motorists should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area. Drivers should pay close attention to flaggers and signs in work zones, obey posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Additional closures to install beams on the bridge are expected to continue until May 12.
