State of Illinois to pay for sick girl's surgery

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The state of Illinois will pay for a sick little girl's surgery after all.

Last month, ABC7 reported on Kimberly Alvarez, a 3-year-old who suffers from a severe congenital scoliosis and needs a brace to breathe.

The state originally said it would not pay for her surgery through Kimberly's state-issued insurance, but it decided to cover the cost after our story aired.
