Police investigate inmate death at La Porte County Jail

LA PORTE, Ind. (WLS) -- Police are investigating the death of a female inmate in the La Porte County Jail.

Officials say Rachel Barnes, 33, was found unresponsive by deputies in a holding cell around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and pronounced dead a short time later.

Barnes was discovered after a deputy saw that she was not moving via security camera footage, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate and have not released any other details.
