Latinos throughout the state met Friday to discuss issues surrounding employment and immigration at the 14th annual ILLCF.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (WLS) -- Latinos throughout the state met Friday to discuss issues surrounding employment and immigration at the 14th annual Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation Conference.

The keynote speakers included the first Latino federal judge in Illinois, Chief Judge Ruben Castillo.

The caucus honored him with a special award.

Castillo said although progress is being made in helping the Latino community, there is much more work ahead.

"We shouldn't give up or despair because the national elections might have turned out differently than people wanted them to turn out," Castillo said.

The conference also honored 25 young people with scholarships.

Each year, the foundation gives out about $1 million in scholarships.
