Chicago shootings: Tracking gun violence in 2024

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city of Chicago continues to grapple with gun violence, which impacts hundreds of people every year. As of July 7, 2024, there have been almost 1,200 total reported shootings in the city, according to the Chicago Police Department.
"We cannot take our eyes off the ball," Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said at a news conference following a violent July 4 holiday weekend. "We cannot stop thinking about the people who have been victimized by this crime."
While long holiday weekends often see a spike in gun violence, Chicago police and city officials are working to curb shootings and make the city safer.

Man critically wounded in shooting involving CCL holder in Cragin: police
A man was critically wounded after an altercation with a concealed carry license holder in the Cragin neighborhood Tuesday morning, Chicago police said.
The shooting took place at about 2:25 a.m. in the 5200-block of West Fullerton Avenue.
A 46-year-old man was wounded in the chest and transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Police said a suspect, who is a concealed carry license holder, is in custody.

At least 33 people have been shot, one fatally, in shootings across Chicago in the weekend, police said.

4 shot inside Deja Vu Showgirls nightclub in South Loop, police say
Four people were wounded on Monday, police said, which happened around 3:36 a.m. inside the Deja Vu Showgirls club in the 700-block of South Clinton Avenue.
Police said multiple people were involved in a verbal altercation inside the nightclub when someone opened fire, hitting four people.
A 27-year-old man was shot multiple times and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Three other men were shot and taken to the hospital. They are expected to be okay.
By Monday afternoon, Chicago police placed a notice on the front door of the nightclub.
