LOCKPORT, Ill. (WLS) -- Southwest suburban Lockport police are investigating after two bodies were found at a construction site.

Police said around 6:20 a.m., the construction foreman arrived at the site and found two male employees dead inside a townhome under construction in the 16100 block of Coneflower Drive. The foreman believed the men to be unresponsive and called paramedics, who pronounced the men dead at the scene.

"I actually pulled out of the driveway to have the supervisor stop me to see if I saw or heard anything during the night. Told him no. I asked him if it was a break in. He told me no, it's a bigger issue than that," said neighbor Rick Hadlock.

Lockport police, along with the Will and Grundy County Major Crimes Task Force, are investigating the deaths as a double homicide.

"We don't believe the safety of the public is in jeopardy. It seems to be an isolated incident contained within that townhome," said Lockport Police Chief Terry Lemming.

Police said the men hadn't been dead for more than a few hours and that they were alive Monday, meaning police believe they died overnight.

"I sleep in the bedroom up there, so I looks out to the project, and didn't hear, didn't see anything," Hadlock said.

"I don't know if I want to know more or not. I think I'm better not knowing," said neighbor Jackie Turco.

The victims are unidentified pending fingerprint comparisons according to the Will County Coroner's Office, and the cause of their death will be determined by autopsies to be performed Wednesday.

"It's very uncommon to have a homicide. This is a sleepy town, very uncommon, the last one was about 10 years ago," Lemming said.

Investigators picked through the partially-built home for hours Tuesday and a tow-truck took the victims' truck away for examination.
