CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man who was missing for 20 hours on Lake Michigan was rescued Saturday thanks to the Coast Guard and a Good Samaritan, officials said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was supposed to sail from Diversey Harbor to New Buffalo, Mich. Friday evening but never arrived, officials said, prompting his wife to report him as missing. He did not have his cell phone or a marine radio on board the boat, but did have a life jacket and emergency flares, officials said.

Crews began looking for the man, and at 8 a.m. Saturday, a search-and-rescue controller received reports from boaters that had seen a man waving a life jacket on a disabled vessel anchored off of Weko Beach in Sawyer, Ind., officials said. A crew then found the man and towed his boat into New Buffalo.
