CHICAGO (WLS) -- Keeping a happy marriage can be difficult, especially with the stress of the holiday season.
A new book, "Marriage in Modern Life: Why it Works, When it Works," by Dr. Anne Brennan Malec, hopes to change the way couples perceive their marriage and help them overcome problems. The reality is that keeping a relationship alive and healthy requires a lot of "doing." Relationships require attention. They require selfless mindful actions like remembering to give and not just to take or to be generous when feeling selfish.
Dr. Malec implores couples to look deeper into the meaning of marriage and work together to understand the ways in which they can maintain a balanced, fulfilling relationship.
Dr. Malec joined ABC7 Eyewitness News to talk about the challenges facing modern marriages.
