Wheaton man, 20, accused of trying to meet 14-year-old for sex

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- A west suburban Wheaton man is accused of trying to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex after friending her on Facebook.Bond has been set at $200,000 for Matthew Knitter, 20.

Police say on Tuesday, Knitter's 14-year-old victim accepted a Facebook friend request from him, and then Knitter sent sexually explicit messages to the girl and asked her to meet him in person for sex, police say. After receiving the messages from Knitter, the girl immediately informed her father who in turn called police.

The Wheaton Police Department took control of the girl's Facebook account and arranged a meeting with Knitter later that day. Knitter was arrested at approximately 6:30 p.m. when he allegedly went to meet his victim.

Knitter has been charged with one count of indecent solicitation of a child, one count of solicitation to meet a child and one count of grooming. He's due in court August 10.
