CHICAGO (WLS) -- Metra re-opened all Milwaukee District-West tracks near River Grove after a pedestrian was fatally struck by an inbound train early Monday morning.
Metra officials said a pedestrian was hit by inbound train No. 2202 near Thatcher Avenue and Arnold Street around 5 a.m. Trains were stopped in both directions for about two hours.
North Central service trains were dispatched to accommodate passengers between River Grove and Chicago. Metra re-opened track No. 1 and track No. 2 just before 7 a.m.
Trains operated with extensive delays for much of the morning commute. The train that struck the pedestrian was on the move just before 8 a.m.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed a person was fatally struck, but did not immediately provide additional information.
River Grove police declined to provide information about the crash.
