Metra fare hike starts Feb. 1

Metra customers will see a rate increase that takes effect on Feb. 1.

The money will be used to help pay for a federally mandated safety system and the transit agency's modernization plan.

Customers who buy a one-way ticket will pay a quarter more per ticket.

The cost of a monthly pass will increase $2.50.
