WANTAGH -- A couple from Long Island is thanking police for helping make a very special delivery when they could not get to the hospital in time.

Police officers and a medic helped mom Stephanie deliver a healthy baby girl Sunday morning - in the back of a Nassau County Police Department ambulance.

They were en route from Stephanie's home n Wantagh to Nassau University Medical Center, but the baby just could not wait, and was delivered right on the Wantagh State Parkway.

Both mom and baby are doing great - the proud parents have named their newborn girl Sophie Elizabeth.
