Shots fired at Chicago police in Roseland, 1 in custody

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police said they have a person in custody after shots were fired at officers in the city's Roseland neighborhood Monday afternoon.

Police said around 2:15 p.m. a man fired at officers near the 300-block of West 105th Place. Officers immediately fired back. No injuries were reported.

Several people who live on the block said they heard two gunshots at a time when children were playing basketball in the street. Michael Omar Williams ran up from him basement as soon as he heard the gunshots to see what was going on.

"I looked out the window toward my neighbor's house, because that's where I heard the shots coming from; didn't see anybody. So I ran up to, uh, to my other back window, looked out my other back window from inside the house, and saw a police officer. He was holding a weapon and he was ducking behind the cover, trying to keep under cover and aim as well," Williams said.

"The officer didn't fire a single shot, but he was covering somebody," Williams continued.

Chicago police said they took one person into custody and recovered a gun at the scene. While much of the scene has been cleared, a back alley remains roped off as police continue to investigate.
