1 injured after tire flies off truck, smashes windshield of SUV in northern suburbs

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WLS) -- One person was injured after a tire detached from a pickup truck on Route 53 and smashed into an SUV Friday night in the northern suburbs.

A pickup truck was driving in the northbound lanes on Route 53 near Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village when the tire flew off into oncoming traffic, crashing through the windshield of an SUV, police said.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
