1 killed in I-80 crash near New Lenox

NEW LENOX, Ill. -- A 58-year-old southwest suburban man was hit and killed by a semi on Interstate 80 during the Monday evening rush near New Lenox.

Ralph O. Sharp was struck in the westbound lanes of the highway near mile marker 139 about 3:45 p.m., according to Illinois State Police and the Will County coroner's office.

The Orland Park resident was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

State police are investigating why he was on the roadway. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
