CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city of Chicago is going high-tech in its mission to replace the aging water and sewer systems.

The city has a new water alert email service. It gives residents real-time updates on the progress of water and sewer projects in their neighborhoods.

The city plans to replace more than 90 miles of water mains and 22 miles of sewer mains by the end of the year.
