A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about a fatal hit-in-run in suburban Niles that killed a 55-year-old man.

Tadeusz Dec, of the 9000-block of West Terrace Drive in Niles, was walking across Golf Road just west of Greenwood Avenue, not far from his house, shortly before 11 p.m. Sept. 17, police said.

Police are looking for a white, or similar color, Toyota 4Runner from model years 1999 through 2002. The vehicle likely sustained damage on the left front corner light and left front turn-signal light.

A witness also told police that there is a dark decal of an unknown design, possibly non-factory installed, on the lower passenger doors of the vehicle. A witness stated the vehicle continued driving westbound on Golf Road after hitting Dec.

"This is our largest reward ever and we hope it encourages witnesses to come forward and give the family some closure," said Morgan Dubiel, president of the Niles Crime Stoppers. "Tadeusz's family is devastated at the loss. He leaves behind a loving wife, children and grandchildren who will never know their loving husband, father and grandfather."

Anyone with information is asked to call Niles police at 847-588-6533.
