Shrine of Christ the King gets temporary home after fire

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The parishioners of a Chicago Catholic church destroyed by fire now have a new place to worship.

Volunteers with the Shrine of Christ the King Church started moving pews into an unused gym at First Presbyterian Church. It sits just a block east of the shrine which suffered $3 million in damage in last month's fire.

"We're just inches from the ashes here and that's very significant, very symbolic of our resurrection of our community. Being so close to home and rising up again," said Fr. Matthew Talarico, Shrine of Christ the King.

Some of the items moved into the temporary church are from the burnt out shrine.

Sunday's Mass will include some of the Chicago firefighters who worked on the fire.
