American Airlines changes frequent flier miles

If you're an American Airlines frequent flier, you're in for a big change.

The airline will start awarding frequent flier miles based on the fare you pay, not the distance you fly.

United and Delta have similar policies.

American Advantage customers will earn five miles for every dollar spent on the base fare and fees.

The change takes place in 2016.
