110 mph driver clocked on US 20, police say
ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. (WLS) -- A man is charged with reckless driving after a deputy clocked his vehicle as going 110 mph in a 55 mph zone on US 20 near Rolling Prairie, Ind., the La Porte County Sheriff's Department said.
The Honda Accord was headed east on U.S. 20 at 7:20 a.m. Monday when La Porte County Sheriff's Deputy Paul Adams clocked it at 110 miles per hour, authorities said. The speed limit in that area is 55 miles per hour.
Deputy Adams said the vehicle was headed east when it suddenly slowed and did a U-turn before pulling into a driveway. Steven Reeves, 23, of Gary, Ind., allegedly admitted to Deputy Adams he was trying to elude the officer with the move.
Reeves was arrested and charged with reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement, a felony.
La Porte County Sheriff John Boyd commended Deputy Adams for his efforts in a statement, "to be traveling 110 miles per hour on one of our most heavily traveled roads during a time when school buses are picking up our students is the very definition of reckless. We have asked our patrol deputies to increase their traffic activity during these peak travel times and this is where it pays off."
