Rep. introduces bill to declare Obama's birthday a state holiday

SPRINGFIELD (WLS) -- Illinois State Rep. Andre Thapedi, D-Chicago, introduced legislation in Springfield this week calling for the state to declare President Obama's birthday, August 4, a state holiday.

The bill is cosponsored by representatives Thaddeus Jones, Rita Mayfield and Arthur Turner.

The bill calls for the day to be considered a legal holiday on which to commemorate Obama, and says if August 4 falls on a Sunday the following Monday shall be considered a holiday.
