CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 12-year-old boy was shot in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. Investigators are looking into whether he was the intended target.
Police said someone opened fire in the 5900-block of West North Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. They said the boy heard the shots and ran to a car. That's when he realized he had been hit.
The boy was shot in the back and armpit, police said. He was rushed to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
Area North detectives are handling the investigation.
