Construction closes Chicago Avenue Bridge during daytime hours through Friday

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A stretch of Chicago Avenue will be closed to traffic during business hours this week.

Work started Wednesday on the Chicago Avenue Bridge over the Chicago River, which officials say is in need of emergency repairs.

Thursday and Friday the bridge will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. All other times just one lane will be open in each direction.

Pedestrians and bicycles are allowed to cross the bridge during construction.
