CHICAGO (WLS) -- Metal detectors will be installed at Wrigley Field, just in time for the Chicago Cubs' Opening Night on April 11, a team official said.

On Thursday, Chicago Cubs season ticket holders received an email, with a demonstration video, informing them of the security change. This is the first regular season that the Cubs will utilize walk-through metal detectors.

"As both fans and security personnel adjust to this new process, lines will be longer than you've experienced in the past. We encourage you to plan for additional time needed to enter the ballpark," the email said.

Since 2015, the ballpark has used hand-held detectors or walk-through magnetometers, which was a requirement of the Major League Baseball.

The new metal detectors are also a mandate from MLB for all major league ballparks, a Cubs spokeswoman said.

On Opening Night, all gates will open at 4:35 p.m., two and a half hours before game time.
