ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- The heroin epidemic is impacting every corner of the state; 18 people have died from heroin overdoses this year alone.

A summit was held Friday in suburban Romeoville to discuss the crisis. Topics included a new state law requiring hospitals to do a better job of reporting fatal overdoses, the effort to go after more of the suppliers and then there's the question of how to handle the addicts.

Another concern is the rising use of powerful painkillers such a Fentanyl. Since September of 2015 there have been more than 100 deaths linked to the drug.
