Elderly woman killed in Bellwood house fire

BELLWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- An elderly woman died in a house fire in west suburban Bellwood early Wednesday morning.

Bellwood Spokesperson Andre Harvey the flames broke out in the bedroom of a home in the 300-block of Wilcox Street around 2:30 a.m.

Harvey said a woman in her eighties or nineties was not able to escape and was killed. Her identity has not been released.

Several other people managed to make it out of the house safely. No other injuries were reported. They are in need of a place to stay.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
