Boil water order issued for Gold Coast

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Department of Water Management has issued a boil water advisory has been issued for Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood.

The boil advisory is in effect for all buildings on East Division Street from State Street to Lake Shore Drive, as well as 1201 North Astor, 1167 and 1201 North State Street and 1200 North Lake Shore Drive.

The advisory has been issued due to a break in the two-inch service water line on Monday. There was concern for cross-contamination, so the city flushed the system, rechlorinated and then flushed again. Results of samples taken for taken will take at least 24 hours and so the boil water will remain in effect until the results come back

Water for drinking, making ice, washing foods, washing dishes by hand, brushing teeth or any other situation that involves the consumption of water should be brought to a full rolling boil for at least 5 minutes before being used or consumed.

The water is safe for non-potable uses like bathing, washing clothes and for dishwashers.
