CHICAGO (WLS) -- The National Weather Service warned against swimming in Lake Michigan Tuesday.

A Beach Hazard Statement was issued for Lake and Cook counties in Illinois and Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties in Indiana through Tuesday night.

Winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour could create dangerous swimming conditions, the weather service said. Strong rip currents and waves reaching 4-7 feet are expected.

Despite the NWS warning, the Chicago Park District sent out a tweet that said all city beaches are open Tuesday.
