CHICAGO (WLS) -- A new plan to reduce airport noise around O'Hare International Airport goes into effect Wednesday night.

The "Fly Quiet" plan rotates night-time arrival and departure runways weekly to give nearby residents a break.

The six-month test will run from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

In 2015, Chicago received more than 4 million noise complaints from people living near the airport. Complaints soared after O'Hare started shifting traffic from the older diagonal runways to newer, east/west ones.
