Man jailed on alleged fabricated drug charges sues CPD officers

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man jailed for 10 years on allegedly fabricated drug charges is now taking four Chicago police officers to court.

Jermaine Walker was a student at a university in Tennessee when he was arrested in Uptown in 2006. His lawyers say the four officers framed him during the course of their investigation, doing everything from planting drugs on Walker to hiding evidence.

It wasn't until a public defender reopened the case that Walker's conviction was overturned and he was freed.

"We have the best system in the world, but when these perjured actions take place, we have collateral damage," his attorney said.

The City of Chicago says it has not yet seen the lawsuit and therefore has no comment.
