Police issue alert after man tried to lure girl, 12, into minivan on West Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police have issued a safety alert about a man who tried to kidnap a 12-year-old girl on the West Side.

The girl was walking last Monday on North Monticello near Ferdinand Street when she noticed a silver mini-van was following her.

The driver -- a white man with a bald head -- told her to come over. The girl ignored him. That's when the man drove right in front of her, blocking her path.

The girl was able to run all the way to a friend's house, where someone called police.

The driver is described as bald white man, approximately 25-25, who was wearing a dark blue shirt.
