CHICAGO (WLS) -- A pastor said Friday that the black community is "insulted" by what's known as the Blue Lives Matter ordinance.

Chicago Alderman Ed Burke has proposed a measure that would make an attack on police and firefighters a hate crime.

Several groups, including Freedom First International and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, said this is the wrong time for such an ordinance.

"Blue lives do matter, we don't doubt that," said Pastor Gregg Greer. "But what the issue is that our community has to see that their lives matter just as much."

On Friday Alderman Burke could not be reached for comment.
