There is now more regulation for how police in Illinois collect cell phone data.

It deals with the technology that gathers cell phone usage data on targets of criminal investigations but also on hundreds of other phones.

The new state law requires police to delete all information from non-targets within 24 hours.

It also keeps police from using the tool to block phone calls, web browsing or text messages.
