CHICAGO (WLS) -- The family of a college student shot and killed in Chicago's Wrightwood neighborhood and Father Michael Pfleger are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the shooter's arrest.

Arshell "Trey" Dennis III, 19, was home from college to surprise his sick mother for her birthday when neighbors say a gunman walked up and started shooting outside a home near West 82nd Street and South Sacramento on Sunday, according to police.

His father, Arshell "Chico" Dennis, is a long-time CPD officer and a close, personal friend of Chicago Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

The 19-year-old was a graduate of Urban Prep Academy and a junior studying journalism at St. John's University in New York City. He was slated to go back to school on Sunday.

Members of Saint Sabina, Pfleger and a representative of the family will gather together on Friday where Dennis was shot to pass out flyers and offer the reward.
