CHICAGO (WLS) -- Emergency crews were called to the scene of a fire Thursday on Chicago's North Side.

Three people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals, according to a tweet from the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire started in a Rogers Park apartment building in the 6900-block of North Sheridan Road and was extinguished by 5:30 p.m.

Two people were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, one in serious-to-critical condition and the other in serious-to-fair condition, fire officials said.

A third person was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Swedish Covenant Hospital.

The fire was contained to one apartment on the fourth floor, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
