CHICAGO (WLS) -- Everett Henderson, a Chicago high school football player recovering from being shot six times shortly after a football game, said he's ready to return to the field.

Henderson was shot and badly injured on Sept. 10, only a few hours after playing a football game against Rich East in Park Forest.

Henderson hasn't played in a game since the shooting but has been practicing with his Chicago Vocational Career Academy team. He returned to cheer the team on only six days after being shot.

"They've been more down than me because a lot of people say I was best person on the team, but in my eyes it's the team," Henderson said at the time.

He told the Chicago Sun-Times he also plans to play basketball this year.
