Gregg Kaplan lost his first wife to breast cancer. She learned, after her diagnosis, that she carried the BRCA 1 gene mutation which put her at greater risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.

Kaplan's second wife also carried the mutation, but underwent a preventative mastectomy.

Together, they've founded the website www.exploreyourgenetics.org to answer questions about genetic testing for those who might want to know if they're at greater risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer.
